Though the brand was still met with much success, during the 70s, the brothers started to fight over the company, until the ownership was finally given to Maurizio Gucci by brother Aldo in 1980. Maurizio then sells half of the company’s shares to Investcorp, an Arab-based company. Domenico de Sole becomes president of Gucci America in 1984.
During the 90s, designer Tom Ford stepped up to head Gucci, and brought the brand back to the fashion scene by coming out with his first collection in March 1995. In 2004, both Tom Ford and Domenico de Sole would abandon their posts in the Gucci empire, leaving Gucci in the hands of Frida Giannini and John Ray today.
