Authentic Gucci Handbags

Guccio Gucci, an Italian born to a craftsman, founded the famous brand in 1921. Gucci decided not to join his family’s ailing straw hat-making business and left for London, where he became a maitre d’ in one of London’s top hotels. The young Gucci paid close attention to the hotel guests and their lavish luggage, and eventually, his taste in high quality luggage was born.

Gucci returned to Florence and established the House of Gucci in 1921, which also housed a saddlery and workshop. This shop, located at 7 Via della Vigna Nuova, would later become a great source of exclusive leather bags and shoes, adorned with a horse’s snaffle, and created by highly skilled craftsmen of Florence. When the shift was made from horse-drawn carriages to horseless transportation, the House of Gucci went with the times and started selling luxury luggage to its clientele.

With the success of the Florentine shop, Gucci decided to open its first retail shop in Via Condotti in Rome in 1938. By 1947, the name Gucci has become one of the most prestigious names in the industry. Later, Guccio’s other son Rodolfo decides to join the business as well in 1951, and consequently opens a shop in Milan. Two years later, Guccio Gucci passes away, the same year that the brand’s New York shop opens on 58th Street. This was the start of Gucci’s empire in the global arena.
